PRIMARY PURPOSE: Plan, implement, and evaluate a summer program of guidance and counseling services based on the defined needs of the population served.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Master's Degree
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate Valid School Counselor Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of counseling procedures/techniques
Knowledge of family and peer group dynamics
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience with assigned grade level students preferred
Experience in a digital environment preferred
Minimum Experience:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
PLANS, IMPLEMENTS, AND EVALUATES A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM OF GUIDANCE, INCLUDING THE DELIVERY OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LESSONS
ASSISTS TEACHERS IN THE TEACHING OF GUIDANCE RELATED CURRICULUM
Consults with the summer school facilitator and teachers regarding the needs of the students assigned to each digital classroom.
Supports teachers in ways to embed SEL into the content
USES ACCEPTED THEORIES AND TECHNIQUES APPROPRIATE TO SCHOOL COUNSELING.
Uses accepted theories.
Uses effective techniques.
CONSULTS WITH PARENTS, TEACHERS, SUMMER SCHOOL FACILITATOR AND OTHER RELEVANT INDIVIDUALS TO ENHANCE THEIR WORK WITH STUDENTS
Provides professional expertise collaboratively.
Interprets information and ideas effectively.
Advocates for students.
ADHERES TO ETHICAL AND LEGAL STANDARDS
Observes ethical standards of Texas and the American School Counselor Association.
Observes relevant legal standards.
Selects counselor interventions appropriate to students' issues and circumstances.
Creates an atmosphere in which confidence, understanding, and respect result in a helping relationship.
Maintains positive working relationships with other counselors.
Maintains professional records.
Respects the integrity of the student.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); flexibility; ability to manage simultaneous demands from a variety of sources; ability to manage crisis situations that impact individuals as well as large groups; interpret policy, procedures, and data; compile and coordinate student data; coordinate district-wide and campus-level functions; maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical demands/Environmental Factors:
Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; lifting and carrying of moderately heavy boxes of testing materials.
