Come as you are and achieve better lives as part of the St. Louis Arc family of individuals in this unique overnight summer role of NextED Challenge Partner ($18/hour). This seasonal Monday - Thursday role will support young adults (18 to 30 years old) with developmental disabilities by providing a unique learning experience in apartment style living, using dormitories on the campus of UMSL.

This year, NextED Challenge trainings will be scheduled for June 20, 2024 and July 11, 2024. The program is scheduled to run the weeks of June 24 - 27 and July 15 - 18. We are seeking to fill our Monday to Thursday overnight shifts from 9:00 pm to 7:00 a.m. Overnight stays are required in the dormitories.

What you will do:

• Be a team player by sharing in responsibilities and duties supporting participants

• Know and understand all safety procedures as trained

• Facilitate group activities as needed

• Support participants to grow toward achieving their goals and learning decision-making, independence and self-expression

• Develop rapport with participants which will allow for effective and supportive communication, becoming familiar with their needs and abilities

• Keep coordinator informed of all activities and maintain open communication with all staff

• Attend all required training and staff meetings, and comply with Arc policies and procedures

• Adhere to Arc core values of Respect, Collaboration and Empowerment

• Support all Arc diversity and inclusion practices

What we expect of you:

The flexible, respectful individual we see is an innovative and quick thinker with these qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED

• 21 years of age or older

• Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities either professionally or personally (i.e. family member) is preferred

• Some college level course work in special education, social work, occupational therapy, recreation, or health and human services is helpful, but not necessary

• The ability to communicate effectively and fluently in English, and meet physical requirements such as extended walking, standing, bending, lifting, use stairs and carry supplies

• Energy, enthusiasm and positivity

• Good judgment, discretion and attention to detail
