General Summary
Reporting to the Aquatics Director, the Summer Lifeguard is responsible for oversight and safety of the pool and pool deck areas, mitigating potential risks of injury for swimmers and guests.10-15 hours per week. Hours mostly Monday-Friday with some Saturdays in July. Start date is first week of June
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise the pool and pool deck areas, including communicating with swimmers and athletes, to ensure the safe use of the pool;
Maintain constant and active visibility of pool area by standing or sitting in an elevated platform chair, avoiding interpersonal conversations and/or personal distraction from electronic devices;
Maintain an appropriate and ready body condition in the event you must enter the pool to rescue a swimmer, including wearing swimming attire, and keeping a floatation device within an arm's reach while on duty;
Collaborate with other lifeguards on duty, if necessary, by rotating guard stations every 15 minutes;
Manage the sound to ensure calls for help can be heard, including addressing loud music levels;
Supervise safe and appropriate use of pool areas, including diving from the high board, sides of the pool, and starting blocks;
Other duties as assigned
Job Specifications
3 months of lifeguard experience or learning preferred
Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.
Knowledge of First Aid and CPR required.
Ability to meet schedules and time lines.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to understand hazards and follow safety procedures in swimming pool areas
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community
Physical Demands
Ability to sit for extended periods of time
Ability to stand and/or walk on a hard surface for eight hours or more
Ability to lift and/or move up to 200 lbs occasionally to remove a person from the water
Ability to stoop frequently
Ability to reach with hands and arms frequently.
Working Conditions
Worker is continually subject to humidity and potentially slippery, wet surfaces
Worker is frequently exposed to pool chemical agents
