Duties:Why choose an internship with GLITEC? A GLITEC internship is a unique opportunity to engage in public health practice in rural, underserved, and culturally varied communities that experience disparate health, education, and economic conditions.
To help create a successful work experience, GLITEC offers learning opportunities about the history of colonization and its effect on American Indian/Alaska Native communities and helps interns understand the importance of building and maintaining trust with Tribal communities. Project Opportunities GLITEC is seeking a total of three (3) interns this summer, to be placed in one of the locations listed below. Projects available to interns vary depending on student interest, academic program requirements, and staff availability. GLITEC intern projects areas could include: • HIV prevention promotional activities • Tribal community health assessment (data analysis and report writing) • Social Determinants of Health report • Collecting drinking water samples
Qualifications:Intern Requirements and Qualifications Undergraduate and graduate master's-level public health students may submit applications for their internship, field placement, and/or master's project. A GLITEC internship requires an awareness and keen appreciation of Native traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs.
Qualified applicants must always demonstrate the ability to work effectively with contacts at Native organizations. This requires humility, respect, courtesy, open-mindedness, trustworthiness, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature while continuing to pursue our mission. Interns may have day trips and overnight travel throughout Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin as part of the internship to help build relationships with the Tribal communities we serve; work travel expenses are reimbursable.
Internships are expected to begin in May 2024 and conclude in September 2024. Actual start and end dates are flexible. Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week for approximately ten weeks at $18.00 - $20.00 per hour based on qualifications.
