Job Title: Communications/Community Relations Intern
Hours: 15-20 Hours/week
Start/End Date: June 3- August 9, 2019
Salary: $8.25 - $10.00/Hour based on experience
The Communications/Community Relations Intern works to implement both internal and external communications programs and projects for Naperville CUSD 203 under the supervision of the Communications/Community Relations Department Staff while gaining experience in the field of Public Relations.
Plan, write, prepare and/or edit press releases, event notices and feature articles to be used in district publications and/or for release through select media channels.
Research, interview, write, edit, proofread, revise and distribute content for electronic and print communication, including social media.
Develop story logs and editorial calendars, conduct subject research and interviews, and procure artwork, photos, video, etc.
Assist in the preparation of District brochures, reports, event programs, invitations and informational materials allotted within the budget.
Photograph events, locations, and individuals maintaining a record and catalog of images. Release images in accordance with the communication goals of the District.
Maintain repository of press releases and articles; produce monthly report on media presence.
Participate in the set-up and preparation of Community Relations/District organized events.
Assist in maintaining the District's website, including site structure, activities and events online calendar, design and content updates, and ensure message continuity and brand integrity across school websites.
Assist in logging, scripting, and editing process to create videos for the District's use.
Other activities as required in support of the Communications/Community Relations Department or to gain experience in a desired area of Public Relations.
College: Working to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, New Media or equivalent in experience and education.
High School: Interest in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, New Media or equivalent in experience and education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced writing, proofing and editing ability (appropriate tone/style, clear and concise, well-organized, complete and accurate); knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style; technology proficient - Google platform (Drive, Docs, etc.), Microsoft Office (Outlook/Word/PowerPoint). Proficiency in Adobe Suites (InDesign and Photo Shop) and Final Cut Pro a plus. Must have experience with online social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube). Must be able to work independently, multi-task and manage several ongoing projects simultaneously, and have the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
