DESCRIPTION OF INTERNSHIP:
The City of Tracy will provide students living and/or attending High School within the City of Tracy an opportunity to be part of our workforce culture of creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative communication. The goal is to provide the youth within our City an opportunity for paid work experience which supports all emerging students through the Summer Internship Program. The City will ensure a meaningful, measurable, student-centered program that aligns to grade-level standards.
PLACEMENT IN PROGRAM:
During the application process, students will be able to select their top 3 internship placement preferences, however due to the number of candidates and the popularity of the program, placement in a selected department is not guaranteed. Students who submit a complete application, including a resume and letter of recommendation, will be placed on an interview eligibility list for consideration by City department mentors. Departments will interview candidates and select the candidate that will best meet their needs. interns will be assigned a City employee mentor at the start of the program.
Essential and Marginal Duties
Below is a Summary of the 2024 City of Tracy Summer Internship Opportunities:
City Manager's Office (1)
Shadow the Executive Assistant to the City Manager.
Assist with organization project in City Manager's Office (organizing/purging office folders).
Assist with drafting committee meeting minutes, attend daily meetings.
Community & Economic Development (1)
Planning Division:
Conduct Planning inspections with Planner.
Shadow Planner at CED counter for public inquiries.
Review building & development permits with Planner.
Assist with set up for Planning Commission meeting.
Building Division (1):
Shadow staff at Customer Service counter.
Learn and perform tasks in TRAKiT database; learn about GIS.
Learn about various building projects, permitting & plan checking processes.
Cultural Arts
Marketing (1):
Preparing marketing materials for the 2024/25 season using Photoshop & Illustrator.
Researching events to develop social media posts.
Arts Education Program (1):
This position will work alternate hours.
Assisting with art class activities during Artwalks & Senior Tuesdays at the Grand.
Clean and prep classrooms for contract instructors.
Assist customers and attend special events as needed.
Human Resources (2)
Learning and Development initiatives (training, wellness event planning, webpage design)
Assist with various reports.
Close and file liability claims.
Assist in reviewing, typing, and formatting policy revisions.
Assist with subrogation processing.
General office assistance.
Parks, Recreation & Community Services
Youth, Teens & Athletics Division (2):
Seniors/Aquatics & Community Facilities (2):
Parks Maintenance Division (4):
Police Department
Animal Services (Shelter) (2):
Shelter & kennel cleaning/maintenance/organization.
Socializing cats and learning dog behavior, creating enrichment items.
Taking pictures/videos of shelter animals for social media, filing documents.

Office of the Chief (1):
Assist Police Community Relations Coordinator with events.
Brainstorm social media content ideas.
Analyze social media statistics and assist with design of social media graphics/flyers.

Code Enforcement Division (1):
Take calls from citizens, open cases using division software programs.
General office duties.
Ride-a-long with Code & Parking Enforcement staff to experience day-to-day work.
Public Works
Recycling Division (1):

Thursday, but hours may vary by department.
This internship is a 6-week program, scheduled for June 17 - July 25, 2024.
If offered a position, student will be required to have a fingerprint clearance by the Department of Justice (if 18 years of age or older) prior to start of assignment.
Students selected for a summer internship opportunity will need to obtain a work permit from their high school prior to the start of the program.
