EXPLO Pre-College + Career Summer Program is seeking Massachusetts registered nurses and nurse practitioners for the position of Head Nurse at its 2021 summer program, located on the campus of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Our team of nurses work with a population of 10th through 12th grade students from around the United States and over sixty countries. Responsibilities will include caring for students with minor injuries or illness, communicating with students parents about any issues that may arise, coordinating care with our consulting pediatrician and packing medications for off-campus field trips. Responsibilities for 2021 will also include COVID protocol oversight and implementation.
Our program dates are June 27, 2021 to August 6, 2021. Staff orientation and Health Office set-up will take place between June 20-27, 2020. Candidates should expect to work shifts totaling 30-45 hours per week, which may include some weekends and occasional overnights. We will schedule your hours before the summer and take your preferences into account. All meals are provided when on-duty. A private bedroom next to the health office is available for overnights. (Overnight nurses may sleep while on-duty).
Nurse candidates should be comfortable working with our age group of students, communicate well with colleagues and parents, and should be able to manage issues fairly independently. Successful nurse candidates are likely described by others as friendly, grounded, sharp and organized. Head Nurse candidates should be very organized and comfortable supervising other staff.
There are some pre-season responsibilities including reviewing medical files, consultation with several families and organizing an orientation for the other nurses on staff. In addition to hourly salary, our Head Nurse will receive a stipend.

Responsibilities and Duties
The Head Nurse will help set the schedule, provide training sessions for other nurses and staff, review medical files and consult with the Head of Programs in all things health-related during the summer, and essentially be the leader of that department for the summer.
Qualifications and Skills
The Head Nurse should be very well organized, approachable, and able to handle the normal stress that comes with a residential living situation. Clinical skills are as important as administrative skills, and any given shift may find you alternating between the two responsibilities. Experience working with students in a camp or school setting is preferred, but not required.
This is a full-time, but seasonal position, and tuition abatement for the Head Nurse's children is a benefit for candidates with children.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
