PURPOSE: To assist the Coordinator in working with children, counselors and CIT to provide a safe and beneficial Summer Day Camp experience in a Christian environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:1. Lead and/or assist in check in/out, attendance, concessions, prepared Bible lesson, music, craft, recreation; and supervise/support in latchkey, game room, reading and concessions. 2.
Assist Day Camp Coordinator in securing daily supplies.3. Monitor and provide leadership to campers during both large and small group activities.4. Work with program staff to plan and execute daily activities.5.
Be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of each camper in the assigned group.6. Work with the appropriate staff in solving problems between campers.7. Inform Day Camp Coordinator of any staff or camper problems.8.
On field trips, stay with assigned group at all times.9. Handle any minor discipline problems, while on a trip.10. Encourage your group in everything that goes on.11.
Comply with all Safe from Harm requirements.12.
Administration of emergency first aid as needed, recording treatment with proper documentation to coordinator.13. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by coordinator. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at the discretions of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
PHONE & DRESS CODE POLICIES:Cell/Smart phone use limited to hour lunch break and emergencies only.
Staff may wear t-shirts (no profane, negative violent print), Tennis shoes required on site, flip flop/sandles on beach days only, no spaghetti straps, shorts must be worn up at waist height and fingertip length with hands down at side, cleavage midriff and buttocks must be covered. Men may wear tank tops that cut sleeve width.
RELATIONSHIPS:Interface with administration, program leaders, employees, volunteers, campers, donors, community activity groups, clients, and field trip vendors. Be able to bridge community program participants with corps membership.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Under general supervision of the coordinator, working under established policies and guidelines of The Salvation Army, and to be in agreement with The Salvation Army mission.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:Supervision of CIT and Campers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:1. Prior experience with Summer Day Camp and/or working with children preferable.2.
Must exhibit leadership qualities.3. Desire to work with children ages six through thirteen, within the Summer Day Camp setting.4. Willingness to work as part of the ministry team with other staff members.5.
Be at least eighteen years of age.6. Display attitude and work habits in harmony with a Christian environment.7. Safe from Harm trained.8. Have a working watch for rotations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The Day Camp Counselor must be able to lift, carry and or move 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on occasion. They may be required to walk, stoop, kneel or crouch. They must be able to participate in recreational and gymnasium activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:Gymnasium and cafeteria settings with loud noise levels as well as office work environment, class room and outdoor settings with low to medium background noise levels.
