Position Details

Summer camp programs run from June 26, 2024 -August 23, 2024.

The Parks & Recreation Department is looking to hire Summer Camp Counselors for our teen summer camp programs.

Under the direction of the Recreation Manager and Program Coordinators, camp counselors help to plan and lead daily activities for children ages 10-16. Activities include arts and crafts, games and sports, songs, drama, inclusive camp activities with adaptive recreation, and field trips.

These positions will work out of our Auburn Community Center in Les Gove Park. Hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., hours of day dependent upon schedule, from June 26 through August 23, 2024.

Note: This is a non-benefited position working up to 40 hours per week.

Primary Duties

Rec Leader II-Teen Camp Lead Counselor

  • Daily driving is required

  • Provide on-site and off-site leadership of Tween & Teen Program for youth ages 10 through 16.

  • Must be able to assist in activity planning, scheduling and supervision of program.

  • Must be able to engage with youth in specialty camp activities and ensure safety at ALL TIMES.

  • Must be able to work the Fourth of July

  • Must be able to work up to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., hours of day dependent upon schedule, from June 15 through September 3, 2023.

Minimum Qualifications

Teen Camp Lead Counselor Qualifications

In this role you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old.

  • Must be able to pass a driving abstract.

  • Must be comfortable driving a 15-passenger van.

  • First Aid and CPR certification must be completed within 15 days of employment. (Training will be provided by the City.)

  • Be available to work June 26 - August 23, 2024

  • Be available to work July 4th.

Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year or more of experience working with children with and without disabilities in recreation, teaching or day camp environment; knowledge of age appropriate athletic and social activities, crafts and other large group activities for children between 6-13 years old; ability to demonstrate the following characteristics: responsible, respectful, honest, energetic, passionate, flexible, original, creative, dependable, thoughtful.
