Positions will work at Beacon School, 801 W. Union Street in Athens, Ohio.

Summer Camp Counselors perform a variety of program activities including:

1.Implements typical camp activities for groups of children attending the summer camp (i.e. swimming, art, music, hiking, games, sports, field trips, outdoor activities, etc.). Actively participates with children during activities.

2.Ensures children follow camp rules to be outlined at staff training. Ensures safety of children while participating in camp activities.

3.Assists in preparing and serving meals and snacks.

4.Special Working Conditions: Physical intervention and assistance to ensure children can actively participate safely in camp activities is inherent to this job.

This includes assisting children with changing clothes, using the restroom, and eating and drinking. These tasks occasionally result in bruises, scrapes, etc. to the camp counselor. Working conditions may include exposure to blood borne pathogens, communicable disease, potentially infectious materials, and/or aggressive behavior.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled at Ohio University or other university (Hocking College, University of Rio Grande, Ohio State University, Marietta College, etc.)

Must be at least 18 years old at time of application.

Must be available to work 8 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, during mandatory training week (Tentative dates: June 10th through June 14th).

Must be available to work 8 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, for the majority of camp dates (Tentative dates: June 17th through July 19th, days off on June 19th, July 1st through July 5th).

Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.

Successful applicants will be required to pass both state and federal background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with school-aged children with and without disabilities.

Department Kids On Campus Pay Rate

Starting at $12.00 per hour
