JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising daily activities of their assigned group. The Summer Camp Coordinator will maintain clear and timely communication with parents/guardians, Summer Camp Leaders, and with the Summer Camp Director. Along with supervising daily activities, the Coordinator will monitor and enforce all safety protocols.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attends Camp Orientation and training prior to the start of the Summer Camp program.

  • Assists with supervision and implementation of daily operations of Summer Camp to ensure objectives are met.

  • Supervises Summer Camp Leaders, gives clear and concise direction to staff to accomplish daily camp activities, and plans, coordinates, and leads daily activities for youth.

  • Provides supervision of campers during activities at or away from the main camp, at lunchtime, at parks or playgrounds, aquatic center, and to and from and during fieldtrips.

  • Lead staff position on all field trips as assigned and ensures all safety protocols are met including but not limited to all necessary paper work, head count checks, incident/accident reports, etc. as well as being confident in handling any logistical issues.

  • Prepares all accident, injury, and incident reports and immediately reports any incidents and/or accidents, or disciplinary actions to Summer Camp Director.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of planning and coordinating daily activities.

  • Skill in dealing effectively and efficiently with youth.

  • Ability to safely drive city vehicles including vans and trucks.

  • Ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, telephones, recreational equipment, etc.

  • Ability to maintain advanced knowledge of all emergency procedures and ensures the safety of all campers and Summer Camp Leaders.

  • Ability to develop positive, professional relationships with campers and parents.

  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

  • Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and job performance.

  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.

  • Ability to handle questions, problems and concerns of parents/guardians before, during and after camp.

  • Ability to maintain clear communication with parents through telephone, email and in person.

  • Ability to communicate and work with the Summer Camp Director as an effective strong leadership team.

  • Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance as well as neat personal appearance.

  • Ability to understand and follows oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to works alone or with minimal supervision and maintain a great attitude.

  • Ability to lift, pull, push, and drag 55 lbs.

  • Ability to work various shifts, including some evenings.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High school education or equivalent is required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record. Must be CPR certified or obtain certification prior to start of camp. Experience working with children is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting and reaching are required. Repetitive movement of wrist and fingers during computer data input is required. Occasional lifting loads up to 55 lbs.; carrying 45 lbs. up to 50 feet; pushing/pulling 55 lbs.; gripping/rotating hand tools; stair/step climbing; Ability to work outside, in inclement weather, including heat and humidity, for multiple hours with few breaks.
