Summer Programs Voluntary Transfer

The Summer Boost Teacher position will support the 2023-2024 Summer Boost program, which will take place 4 separate nights from 6-8pm at various elementary schools on the following Wednesday evenings (June 26, July 10, July 24, August 7). This is a reading night with activities for 3rd grade students that have scored a 1 on their ELA state assessment. Each evening will be themed around a cultural book and reading activities to support reading strategies. There will be activities for students to travel to each evening plus a take home reading support activity. Our goal is to get students excited about reading while reinforcing reading strategies that have high student engagement.

The selected candidate will work 3 to 12 hours (candidates have choice in how many evenings they want to participate) to meet the needs of this program (not to exceed 12 hours) and will be compensated at their per diem rate of pay, inclusive of benefits, to be distributed on the August 2023 payroll. The tentative required commitment of hours is outlined as follows:

  • Days of Instruction = 2 hours per evening to participate and lead reading activity for 3rd graders up to 8 hours.

  • Preparation=1 hour of preparation per evening up to 4 total

Professional Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate;

  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation and be willing to actively participate in a team environment;

  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the elementary level; and a willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on reading skills;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of new technologies and an ability to incorporate these into instructional programs;

  • Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and district goals;

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self and others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates as a team member with responsibility for the education of a group of students that have been identified as struggling academically over the course of the summer program;

  • Modifies instructional support to meet individual student needs in order to accelerate learning to close skill/knowledge gaps;

  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement designed instruction to achieve learning goals;

  • Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population;

  • Reports student progress to parents and Summer School Principal;

  • Maintains student records in a timely, orderly fashion;

  • Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs, and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology;

  • Participates in Summer School professional development orientation;

  • Participates in meetings, as needed;

  • Works cooperatively with staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.
