THE OPPORTUNITY

Vir Biotechnology (Vir) is seeking a Summer Research Associate reporting to a Scientist II, Analytical Development Bioassays to lead development of bioassays to interrogate the mechanism of action for antibody and other biologic therapeutics. You will execute cell-based and binding assays for and develop new technologies in the lab. You will work with cross-functional teams to develop new methods and optimize them. You will design and conduct laboratory experiments, author protocols, presentations, and reports, and characterize antibody therapeutics with those assays.

This role is located in San Francisco at our corporate office and there is a requirement to be onsite at least three days per week.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Ability to commit to a 3-month contract position with 40 hours

  • Develop cell-based and binding bioassays.

  • Develop new assay modalities and technologies.

  • Operate various laboratory equipment and maintain aseptic techniques.

  • Troubleshoot method-related issues internally with support from the team.

  • Perform cell-based assays

  • Characterize cells used for various biological assays

  • Measure receptor expression using flow cytometry

  • Assess optimal cell health and culturing conditions to prepared assay-ready cells

  • Compare cell characteristics in different cell passages and in cultured cells vs. assay-ready cells

  • Gain skills of critical reagent management, flow cytometry, and cell-based assays

  • Provide support to Analytical development Bioassay with ongoing projects and programs.

  • Present project status, updates, and results to hiring manager and the Bioassay team as required.

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree (ongoing or completed) in a biology-related field.

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment.

  • Understanding of aseptic techniques and pipetting skills.

  • Cell culture experience is highly desired.

  • Flow cytometry skills are a plus.

  • Experience in data analysis of bioassays/immunoassays.

  • Ability to execute laboratory experiments both independently and with other team members.

The expected salary range for this position is $23.00 to $34.00/ Hour . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
