Position Description:

The Alcon R&D team is looking for numerous talented and motivated Engineering interns to join us onsite for 10-12 weeks in Summer 2024 at the Johns Creek, GA location. Alcon interns will have the opportunity to not only gain industry experience and network with other Alcon professionals, but will also have the chance to make a real-world impact by working on meaningful projects that will help patients and customers see brilliantly. Job Description: Johns Creek, Georgia, United States (On-site)

The intern will work towards developing an AI based digital solution strategy that provides accurate & useful personized product and/or treatment recommendations. The intern will develop novel AI prediction models that make data driven product and/or treatment recommendations using personalized consumer information (e.g., lifestyle & preferences questionnaire responses and ocular biometric image & video clinic measurements). Furthermore, the internship will support development of unique methods on how to best deliver these product recommendation AI models into digital solutions that are preferred by our consumers.

Preferred skillset for the intern include, (i) proficiency in data science programing languages (e.g., Python, R), (ii) experience with developing machine learning and/or deep learning prediction models, and (iii) familiarity with cloud services (e.g. AWS Sagemaker). Expected workplan for the intern may include, but not limited to, the following:

1.Perform literature search & review novel approaches that provide personalized product and/or treatment selections & recommendations using machine learning modeling.

2.Evaluate "state-of-the-art" digital solution approaches that can best provide personalized product and/or treatment recommendations.

3.Create effective data management & storage techniques that allows for faster & easier access to data.

4.Collate and pre-process multiple independent data sources to enable many different AI prediction models to be quickly created, tested, and validated.

5.Determine & recommend of machine learning prediction models & digital solution approaches.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for at least one semester prior to internship, and at least one additional semester following your internship.

• Must be pursuing at least a PhD/ Masters, Bachelors' (last semester) degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering

• Academic performance: Minimum cumulative GPA 2.8/4.0

• Demonstrated leadership skills (i.e. extracurricular activities or projects)

• Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis. Students on an F1 visa with CPT work authorization may be accommodated.

• Ability to commit to a 10-12-week, full time (40 hrs. per week) summer internship
