About Mission Bit

Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that inspires youth of color to explore the world of STEM with project-based computer science education that embraces their identities. We offer a variety of hands-on STEM education programs, including biweekly, semester-long introductory coding courses.


In partnership with Meta’s Youth Summer Academy hosted at the Meta HQ in Menlo Park.

Details

As a Student Intern with us, you’ll be responsible for integrating critical thinking, problem-solving, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and global citizenship into your classes, tracking student progress, and helping students realize their potential. This is a highly visible, student-facing role that reports directly to the Innovative Learning Manager.

We’re proud to provide training to all instructional staff to prepare them to teach, along with ongoing support throughout the semester!

This is a seasonal, semester-based, hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area. 16+/- hours per week.

Schedule

Instructor Training

  • May 24, 2024 - June 7, 2024 (Hybrid Schedule)

Class Dates

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:45 AM - 2:45 PM
  • June 17, 2024 - July 25, 2024

Weekly Meetings

  • 1 hour a week to meet with the instructional team (Virtual)

Additional dates:

  • Demo Day: July 25, 2024, 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • End-of-semester interview: 30 minutes between July 29, 2024 - August 2, 2024

Hours

  • 16+/- hours per week

Location

  • in-person at Meta

Responsibilities

  • Support instructors and instructor’s assistants with their lectures, live-coding demonstrations, coding challenges, and Q&A sessions with students 3 times a week in the classroom
  • Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding the Mission Bit core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks and love
  • Dedicate 1-on-1 time to help students work on their projects
  • Develop individual and meaningful relationships with students

Requirements

  • Must be in high school
  • Have some technical experience in Unity Game Design / Game Development / C#/ Virtual Reality
  • Have some experience with Meta (formerly Oculus) Quest 2
  • Must be able to pass a technical skills assessment
  • Strong understanding of the programming platforms
  • Punctual, organized, and prepared
  • Values aligned with Mission Bit and passion for sharing CS knowledge
  • Experience in teaching
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable and compelling in public speaking situations
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
  • Self-starting with the ability to effectively work autonomously with little oversight
  • Intelligent, dedicated, flexible with a willingness to experiment

$22.00 / hour
