Eligibility Factors:

  • Must have completed at least 30 hours of college coursework

  • Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher

  • Currently enrolled as a full time student

  • Have reached the age of 18 years old

  • May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position, access requirements and essential job functions

Position Purpose

The intern will develop an understanding of their assigned Human Resouces & Communications business unit, as it relates to its functional purpose and will learn standard work, strategies, philosophies, programs and initiatives within the organanization.

Human Resources & Communications Business Units where the intern could be assigned include, but are not limited to the following:

Talent & Culture

  • This Center of Excellence consists of Learning & Development, Diversity & Inclusion, Talent Planning and Labor & Employee Relations. These units work together to drive an inclusive and healthy culture within TVA and aids in execution of enterprise strategies to meet business unit needs

Business Human Resources

  • Provides proactive support, advice, consultation, and solutions to the business leaders on all people-related subjects, including advising on talent and strategic organizational issues that support business strategies

Total Rewards

  • Total Rewards supports the employees of TVA by providing programs related to benefits, health and wellbeing, compensation, and retirement activities to ensure the different needs of our diverse workforce are met

Strategic Performance

  • Strategic Performance is leading and evolving HR&C strategic initiatives through developing governance, providing oversight, ensuring compliance and managing risk, while maximizing performance and leading our commitment to enhance the people experience, serving as the primary source of data, creating business insights, recommendations, and solutions using people analytics and emerging technology.

Communications

  • Develops content to help strategically advance the enterprise mission, strengthen company culture, and drive business results. Strives to tell "the TVA story" and share the value of the public power model with both internal and external stakeholders. Delivers messages through various functions including employee communications, media relations, social media, business communications and creative services.

People First Solutions Center

  • The People First Solution Center is a one stop HR support Center to obtain fast, consistent, and efficient responses for HR related inquiries and requests. Group of specialized individuals to support HR related needs when our robust self-service features and knowledge articles just aren't enough.

Principal Accountabilities:

Example duties include:

  • Become familiar with the TVA business, organization, key decision makers, HR&C processes and procedures. The intern will have the opportunity to interact with leaders and team members while learning the key components that drive their business unit's strategic direction.

  • Develop working knowledge of critical HR&C functions as outlined by the intern's manager and business unit.

  • Learn to apply policies and procedures across the organizations: recommend continuous improvement changes in support of business needs and proactively develop an understanding of policies, procedures, and culture and communcate these to new and existing employees.

Education:

Seeking majors in Human Resources, Marketing, IO-Psych, Business Analytics, Communications, Manamagement, Business Administration or other similar closey related majors

Position Locations: Positions are located throughout the TN Valley region which include, but are not limited to Chattanooga & Knoxville. Virtual options available.

T&I Business Units include: Digital Solutions - Digital Solutions includes Product Delivery, Technology Strategy, Technology Change Management, Standards, Innovation Network, and Digital Transformation. This group works with business partners across TVA to develop and deliver the TVA computing systems and technologies used to serve the people of the Valley. In addition to the development and execution of digital roadmaps and product plans, this team develops and manages technology standards, ensures effective change management, manages metrics, upskills and supports the enterprise with self-service tools and capabilities, and researches innovation opportunities. They are developing Digital Centers of Excellence and an Innovation Incubator, both of which should be operational by late 2021. Infrastructure & Operations - The Infrastructure & Operations team provides hardware & software that TVA businesses use to generate and maintain reliable power across the Tennessee Valley. I&O also supports, carefully evaluates, and troubleshoots TVA's computer systems and applications to ensure they continue to run reliably and effectively. Some functions of I&O include the T&I Help Desk, field service and support for all TVA nuclear, fossil, coal, hydro and gas plants, DevOps, cloud computing, IT Commons (Walk-up help center), and computer risk remediation and mitigation. Cybersecurity - The TVA Cybersecurity organization has many diverse career opportunities that support strengthening the reliability, availability and resilience of TVA's electronic and information based assets. These functions include - Incident Response, Strategy and Risk Management, Assessments and Testing, Authorization and Outreach, Operational Security and Compliance, Privacy, Threat Intelligence and Systems and Services. Technology Portfolio Management - The Technology Portfolio Management organization includes T&I Portfolio Optimization, the T&I Project Management Office, T&I Work Management, and T&I Vendor Management and Origination. The functions of these groups include management of T&I's cash flows and resource capacity, development of technology agreements for T&I products and services, vendor relationship and performance management, management of technology investments, and execution of technology projects.
