Job Summary

We have an exciting internship opportunity for an undergraduate student studying international Affairs, Public Relations, International Marketing, or related major at an accredited university with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Must be local to the D.C. area as housing will not be provided.

  • Under limited supervision, working on non-routine projects with general instruction and advanced projects with detailed instructions, this intern can expect to perform the following tasks:

  • Providing research, analytical, and writing support to GA-ASI Government Affairs staff.

  • Attends information gathering sessions internally and externally to gain a greater understanding of customer perspectives and requirements.

  • Provide assistance and coordination to the Government Affairs staff on issues regarding the impact of government's activities.

  • Drafting white papers

  • Perform analysis in support of the team working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Track internal and external issues relevant to Strategic Development Government Affairs, such as legislation, regulations, news releases, and other events.

  • Develop critical Government Affairs strategic messaging for social media.

  • Assist in corporate think tank strategy and planning

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at a recognized college or university.

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts and apply them accurately.

  • Must possess the ability to follow general and detailed instructions as well as organizational policies and procedures.

  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills to enable effective interface with internal professionals.

  • Must possess the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

  • Must possess basic computer skills.

  • Understanding of a second language is a plus.

  • Needs to have broad knowledge of national security policy.

  • Should possess basic knowledge of international market place.

  • Need to have strong written and verbal skills.

  • Must be local to the D.C. area

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance. (Requires US Citizenship)

The team's mission: Established in 1959, the Inter-American Development Bank ("IDB" or "Bank") is the main source of financing for economic, social and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. It provides loans, grants, guarantees, policy advice and technical assistance to the public and private sectors of its borrowing countries. The Office of Strategic Planning and Development Effectiveness (SPD) is charged with providing technical guidance in order to promote a culture of results within the Bank, and to help it innovate its core business and ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of its products and methods over time. The objective of the consultancy is to support the work stream related to the IDB Group's Corporate Results Framework (CRF), which is the primary tool for monitoring the IDB Group's performance and the achievement of its strategic objectives. What you'll do: * Support the development of an updated CRF to measure the IDB Group's performance, including researching indicators used by similar institutions and developing indicator definitions in coordination with CRF team and technical specialist throughout the IDB Group * Support reporting on the CRF 2016-2019 through the CRF website (, including providing input on the website functionality, and preparing data files for upload to the site. * Support the finalization of the IDB Group's 2019 Development Effectiveness Overview (DEO), which reports on the IDB Group's contributions towards the development of its 26 borrowing member countries. * Support reporting on the contribution of IDB projects to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by reviewing project proposals What you'll need: * Education: A current third year undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree in international development, public policy, public administration, or other related fields in an accredited university. * Languages: be proficient in English and preferably with a working knowledge of one of the Bank's additional official languages (e.g. Spanish, Portuguese, or French). * Technical Skills: Strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, strong oral and written communication skills * Soft Skills: Team player, inclusive, innovative and creative, client-oriented, results-driven, with strong communication skills. Internship Program Requirements: To be part of our Internship Program you will need to comply with all of the following requirements: * Be citizen of Bank member countries; * Be first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation ("Corporation" also known as "IDB Invest"); * For the Undergraduate Category, be between 21 and 27 years of age as of the starting date of the internship and be enrolled in an accredited university as a third-year undergraduate student or beyond. Graduation date cannot be prior to August 15th, 2019; * Not be former staff member, Complementary Workforce ("CW"), contractors for the Bank or the Corporation or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality; and, * Not be a relative*, including spouses, of an active Bank or Corporation staff member or individual with a CW contract within and including the fourth degree of consanguinity and the second degree of affinity.
