Subsurface Utility Engineer (Sue)

Salary Requirements: $35-$45 per hour Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Supervisor to lead utility locating, geophysical, and subsurface investigation projects.

This role involves overseeing field operations, ensuring project accuracy and efficiency, and maintaining client communications. If you have the experience and drive for this role, we encourage you to apply Key Responsibilities: Project Oversight & Coordination:

Define project scope, goals, and resource needs. Prepare cost estimates and proposals. Ensure proper planning, scheduling, and tracking of fieldwork, invoicing, and deliverables.

Collaborate with the Project Coordinator to maintain scheduling accuracy. Client & Team Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for clients, providing timely updates.

Respond to client inquiries within 24 hours. Conduct kick-off meetings to align project expectations. Review and ensure quality assurance of project deliverables.

Field Operations & Supervision: Oversee utility locating using pipe and cable locators, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and related SUE equipment. Conduct field investigations, collect data, and document findings.

Train and mentor SUE staff in best practices and safety protocols. Maintain accuracy in field sketches, reports, and documentation. Perform routine maintenance of field equipment and vehicles.

Tracking & Reporting: Ensure comprehensive tracking of site visits, sketches, and deliverables. Maintain organized project records, including reports and inspections.

Monitor milestones and ensure timely completion of tasks. Review invoices for accuracy and alignment with project work. Cross-Training & Additional Support:

Assist with geotechnical, environmental, and instrumentation projects as needed. Participate in training for additional technical skills within the division. Qualifications & Skills:

High School Diploma/GED (Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field is a plus but not required). Minimum of 4 years of experience in the utility locating industry or as a SUE Field Technician. Proficiency in reading and interpreting utility company prints and design plans. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Ability to obtain a Secure Workers Access Card (SWAC). Strong oral and written communication skills with attention to detail. OSHA Safety certifications are a plus. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and operate heavy tools and equipment.

Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time, including extended stays of up to two weeks. Comfortable working outdoors in various climates and conditions.
