Job Description:
Ledyard Public Schools is seeking a Long Term Substitute -High School Resource Special Education Teacher beginning in the 2024-2025 school year through approximately the end of November 2024 (based on the needs of the district) to work with students in the Resource Room setting. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience working with a range of learning differences using strategies to support students within the general education setting.
Qualifications:
Connecticut Special Education Certification required (165, 065 or 265)
Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals
Existence of strong case management skills
Ability to develop and implement Individual Education plans (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and/or social development
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
Ability to write accurate and thorough assessment reports, IEP's and progress reports
Experience with instructional strategies related to literacy and numeracy at the high school level
Experience with modifying curriculum within the general education setting
Possession of knowledge and skills related to progress monitoring student data as it relates to goals/objectives
Ability to positively engage teachers, students and families in the learning process
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to improve learning for all students
Pay:
The daily rate for substitute teachers is $100. Please note for long term substitute positions (40+ days): The daily rate for long term substitute teachers with certification is $274.09 beyond the 40th consecutive day worked in the same assignment.
Physical Requirements:
Must tolerate prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
Must potentially manage physical interaction with students who have difficulty regulating emotions and controlling behavior.
Must occasionally lift, move, or support other staff with physically escorting students.
