Job Goal

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher to help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.

  • Reports to school office at beginning of school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials. Follows sign out procedures as prescribed by the principal.

  • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.

  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.

  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.

  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, clears chalkboard, etc.

  • Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.

  • Indicates to students at beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school and district policies.

  • Insures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.

  • May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.

  • Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.

  • Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems.

  • Knows school procedures and regulations.

  • Performs other related duties as directed by principal

VIEW JOBS 10/10/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-08T00:00 MARSHALL COUNTY SCHOOLS CLASSIFICATION PLAN CLASS TITLE: Bus Monitor BASIC FUNCTION: Assist school bus driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist student loading and seating arrangements as required. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: * Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation. * Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, record-keeping and completing route surveys. * Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured as required. * Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation Guidelines. * Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriate. * Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures. * Assist handicapped children on and off the bus and escort children across street upon return home; lift children as required; assure responsible adult meets students leaving the bus. * Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned. * Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: * Safe practices concerning school bus transportation. * Basic record-keeping techniques. * Applicable sections of the KAR and other applicable laws. * Health and safety regulations. ABILITY TO: * Maintain proper records and documentation. * Assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required. * Understand and relate to children with special needs. * Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. * Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. * Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. * Lift students according to established guidelines. * Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures. * Maintain routine records. * Observe health and safety regulations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, GED certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a GED as required by Kentucky law.
