Job Description:

Waterford High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Long-Term Substitute Family and Consumer Science Teacher to join our high school faculty effective for the 2024-25 school year. We are looking for an individual who is committed to providing engaging and comprehensive instruction in one or more of the following areas depending on experience/interest: culinary arts, parenting, personal finance, and/or interior design.

Waterford Public Schools serves approximately 2,400 students in grades PK-12. Our district is actively seeking to diversify its administration, faculty, and staff to better reflect our students' multiple identities and to bring a broader range of experiences into our district to continue to enhance the teaching and learning for ALL. The District's facilities include three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The Waterford community strongly supports the public schools and has high expectations for staff and students. According to the State of Connecticut Next Generation Performance Accountability System, Waterford Public Schools ranks in the top third of K-12 school districts in the state. The Waterford Board of Education is a nine-member elected body.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement dynamic lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel supported and encouraged to participate.

  • Teach topics within the family and consumer science curriculum.

  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to enhance student learning and understanding.

  • Assess student progress regularly through assignments, projects, and assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and instructional practices across grade levels and subject areas.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in family and consumer science education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Valid teaching certification in Family and Consumer Science (or eligibility for certification).

  • Previous teaching experience at the high school level preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of family and consumer science content areas and curriculum standards.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Dedication to professional growth and ongoing learning.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

State of Connecticut endorsement

  • Home Economics PK-12 (045) is required.

Daily rate for a certified substitute teacher is $140.00. On the 41st day of same assignment, the daily rate shall be paid at BA Step 1, $256.16.
