Credentialed K-5 Teacher Job Description

Dailey Elementary Charter School is governed by Fresno Innovative Charter Schools, Inc. (FICS) that implements the International Baccalaureate Organization's Primary Years Program curriculum. FICS is looking for high-quality, highly-motivated international-minded K-5 educators to join in the effort to change student's lives through an innovative curriculum.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following, as well as other duties as assigned. In addition, teaching in this school requires a firm understanding of how best practices from a regular classroom can be applied to our innovative model.

Curriculum and instruction

  • Passion for the International Baccalaureate mission and its Primary Years Program curriculum

  • Provide quality, well-planned instruction that engages students and delivers results

  • Teach and hold students accountable for the school's culture and standards for behavior

  • For students with special needs, work to ensure that all IEPs and student needs are met both within and outside of the classroom

  • Be present and willing to work above and beyond during the school year, including 2-4 weeks during the summer to ensure that all students are on track with the IB curriculum

Data, reflection, and constant learning

  • Ensure compliancy with state requirements

  • Participate in coaching and professional growth opportunities

  • Collaborate closely with others to align curriculum across subjects

  • Be driven to improve own and others' instructional practices and share best practices

  • Meet monthly with the Principal to provide student progress update and curriculum feedback

School culture and professionalism

  • Help to envision and create a foster a positive learning environment and exhibit positive rapport with students, parents and staff

  • Hold high expectations for each student

  • Model the values of FICS and setting the standard for professional behavior

  • Participate actively in faculty and staff meetings

  • Participate actively in professional learning community activities, both on-site and off-site

Above and beyond

  • Be willing to engage in after-school or weekend activities with students

  • Any additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director / Director in furthering the school's mission and vision

  • Be prepared to take all necessary measures to ensure that all students to excel

Assignment of Students:

Students will be assigned to teachers by the Executive Director or FICS Board designees according to a number of variables. In general, the Executive Director assigns students by grade level. When appropriate, students from the same family will be assigned to a single teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Four-year college or university degree. Three or more years teaching experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

Must hold a valid California Multiple Subject teaching credential.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in the following areas: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Internet Explorer.

The Ideal Candidate Will Also Have:

  • Experience working with students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade

  • Knowledge of alternative public school environments, including charter schools

  • Ability to support and guide adults, as well as students

  • Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database

  • Organization and time-management skills

  • Flexible schedule

Full-time compensation includes monthly salary, contribution to CalSTRS and a benefits package.
