The Substitute Teacher supervises students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to be at school. Their duties include managing classroom behavior, interpreting and implementing lesson plans, and maintaining a positive learning environment. Substitutes are on-call Monday through Thursday to sub for teachers as needed. Substitutes are required to work every Friday from 7:15-3:15 to assist with Enrichment Day.

The end date of this position is May 31, 2024, and is contingent on funding.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.

• Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive and safe learning environment.

• Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student.

• Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria.

• Provide in-class assignments based on the available lesson plan.

• Assist in leading and supervising Enrichment Days each week.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or four-year degree

Previous experience working in a school setting

Monday-Thursday: on call; as needed

Friday: 7:15 a.m.

• Perform duties typically in school settings to include: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas

• Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment may be required; other physical activities may be required

• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels

• Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards

• Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required

• Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required on assigned days

• Regular contact with other staff members and building administrator(s) is required on assigned days as a substitute

Hiring Range Non-Certified Substitute - $15.00/hour; Certified Substitute - $18.00/hour; Long-Term Substitute - $19.00/hour

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
