Description: Provide a structured, individualized, social studies classroom environment to meet the needs of dual language students by consistently practicing differentiated instruction; and ability to implement authentic assessments such as portfolios to evaluate student achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.Certification: Valid Illinois Professional Educator's or Subtitute License registered in Lake County

2.Education:

A. Required

  • Bachelor's Degree

3.Experience:

A. Preferred

  • Classroom teaching experience

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building

2.Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day

3.Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he is assigned

4.Teachers the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher

5.Consults as appropriate, with the school principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher's Guide

6.Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods

7.Reports in writing, on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day

8.Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates

9.Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, students, and resources. Design coherent instruction and select appropriate instructional activities, and has the ability to assess students learning.
  • Classroom Environment
  • Creates an environment of respect and report, establishes a culture for learning, manages classroom procedures, manages students behavior, and has the ability to organize physical space.
  • Instruction
  • Communicates clearly and accurately, uses questioning and discussion techniques, engages students in learning, provides feedback to students, and demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Professional Responsibility
  • Reflects on teaching, maintains accurate records, communicates professionally, contributes to the school and district, grows and develops professionally, and shows professionalism.

Technical: Demonstrated skills in writing, editing and public speaking. Experience with social media and emerging technologies.Must be able to effectively use photography equipment/software. Competent in digital environments; databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications, etc.

Interpersonal: Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, businesses and community. Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills. Empathetic, humanistic and open-minded. Strong sense of teamwork. Must be able to work harmoniously with the community, students, parents, staff, and administration. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff. Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people. Must have strong organizational skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.

Physical Effort: Work requires handling average weight materials or equipment, but not for sustained periods.

Working Conditions: Some exposure to definitely disagreeable elements may exist.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time; Monday through Friday; 7:40 a.m.

  • 3:15 p.m.

SALARY RANGE: $115 per day (PEL License) $110 per day (Substitute License). This is a non-union, at-will position and is not eligible for benefits.
