Rate: $ 16.75

JOB DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position will involve working as a substitute/on-call secretary to assist schools on a building-need basis. The positions will be varied and may include helping building visitors and parents, working with PowerSchool, answering telephones, health room assistance, providing clerical assistance, and performing other job-related duties and responsibilities in the office as assigned. All duties of the position will be performed within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent with additional job-related training.

  • A transcript must be provided within thirty (30) days of employment.

  • Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.

  • Must pass a basic skills test.

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must pass a Background Check, which includes employee-paid fingerprinting.

  • Completion of Safe Schools web-based safety program within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  • Previous experience working within a confidential environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and English usage.

  • Have the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, work well under pressure while maintaining office routine, handle multiple tasks, parents, students, staff and be a self-starter.

  • Previous secretarial experience. Previous experience and/or training operating general office equipment such as: computer, copy machine, 10 key adding machine, and fax machine.

  • Experience and/or training with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Reflections and Data Now. In-Touch System knowledge a plus.

  • Ability to project a friendly, helpful, and professional demeanor in working with both district employees and the general public.

  • Be able to maintain composure under stressful circumstances.

  • Ability to independently learn new operations, procedures, and processes.

  • Effectively communicate information and field questions from District personnel, community education instructors, customers, business partners, and the general public.

  • Committed to providing excellent customer service.

  • Previous experience and/or training with multiple telephone lines.

  • Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.

  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Offer outstanding customer service in a friendly, professional manner.

  • Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.

  • Assist in maintaining office files, both electronically and hard copy.

  • Maintain an organized and neat work area/office. Will be using workspace of various staff in the office.

  • Assist Human Resources staff in daily tasks, such as processing mail, filing, data entry, payroll, mass mailings, etc.

  • Answer telephone and manage or direct calls as appropriate.

  • Sort and distribute mail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

  • Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-26 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

  • Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
