Substitute School Nurse - per diem 2024/2025 School Year

REPORTS TO: Director of Guidance / Pupil Personnel Services

REQUIREMENTS: Valid license to practice as a RN in Massachusetts.

Bachelors or Master's Degree in Nursing is preferred.

DESE Nurse Certification (initial or professional) is preferred.

CPR/AED Certification.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides care to all ill or injured students, faculty and staff.

Conducts State mandated screenings.

Manages medication administration and assessment.

Ensures each student meets Mass. Dept. of Public Health requirements for immunization and physical exams.

Develops, maintains and enforces current health policies.

Collaborates with the educational team regarding health related issues.

Assesses and plans care for students with special health care needs.

Manages communicable disease prevention, control and surveillance in cooperation with the local Boards of Health.

Provides individual health education and counseling to students, parents, faculty and staff.

Participates in Crisis Intervention.

Provides referrals to community resources and primary care providers.

Collaborates with community agencies and health care providers to ensure continuity of care.

Maintains the cumulative school health record.

Provides education, support and community resources to Pregnant and Parenting Teens.

Reports cases of child abuse / neglect to Dept. of Children and Families.

Assists the School Committee and School Administration in developing School Health Programs/Policies.

Participates in the evaluation process.

Performs additional duties as assigned by Director of Guidance/Pupil Personnel Services.
