POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: Substitute School Health Nurse
LOCATION: Central Office Itinerant
EMPLOYMENT TERM: As Needed
SALARY: Salary based upon degree and experience on current salary schedule (State & County)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Required Bachelors Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education; holds and maintains a valid Registered Nurse (R.N.) License issued by the West Virginia Board of Examiners. Completion of the WV School Nursing Certification Program from an accredited institution or successful completion within one year of employment. The applicant must be computer literate and may be asked to demonstrate basic computer literacy skills as part of the employment process.

Job Description
The School Nurse shall have the following responsibilities and duties:
Plan, develop and implement programs that facilitate health services for students.
Gather and interpret data relevant to health services for students
Provide health services to students.
Collaborate with other school personnel and parents/guardians to coordinate the delivery of health services to students.
Communicate effectively.
Perform routine vision, scoliosis, dental and general health screenings.
Monitor specific programs related to the health needs of students.
Participate in child abuse referrals.
Perform other health related inspections and appraisals as needed.
Monitor student immunization records.
Maintain permanent health records.
Interpret and advise on student medical records.
Make appropriate medical referrals.
Assist classroom teachers with growth and development instruction for the appropriate grade levels.
Conduct home visits as requested.
Develop and implement the nursing care plans for students with major health problems.
Serve on Student Assistance Program teams as requested.
Serve on Individual Education Plan and/or 504 teams as requested.
Maintain professional work habits.
Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
Enter and maintain WVEIS Health Records.
Delegation of tasks to appropriately trained personnel for day to day care of students.
Conduct intervention with regard to substance abuse.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
