SCOE Substitute Para Educator ApplicationCopy of SCOE Para Educator Proficiency Test Certificate (Applicants that meet the Minimum Requirements and did not submit a copy of the SCOE Para Educator Proficiency Test or equivalent will receive an e-mail invitation to attend the testing)OR one of the following:SCOE ESSA/NCLB test certificate, CBEST or transcripts showing date AA Degree or higher was awarded.Must be at least 18 years of age.ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS:The following documents are NOT required at the time of application but will be required of the selected applicant prior to employment:•Department of Justice Fingerprint clearance• Tuberculosis Skin Test clearance• Physical/drug screen clearance• Original signed Social Security Card with current name on it (for payroll purposes)• Picture I.D.

Classroom and playground environment. TYPES OF CLASSES: Autism, Community School, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Emotionally Disturbed, Independent Study, Juvenile Hall, Learning Handicapped, Life Skills, Multiply Handicapped, Physically Handicapped, Resource, Severely Handicapped, Special Day Class, Transitions, 1:1 Assignment (Working with a specific student), Classroom Assistant (Assisting teacher in the classroom). BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely handicapped students in a classroom; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; assist students in developing various self-help, social and community skills. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience working with children and/or individuals with disabilities is preferred.

All VOLUNTEER work must be stated in DETAIL in the "Record of Work Experience" section of the application. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting light-medium weighted objects.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate specialized apparatus and standard office and classroom equipment. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Sitting to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities.

Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Some positions may require bilingual skills in a designated second language. Some positions in this class may be required to possess sign language skills. HAZARDS: Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals. Exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
