Substitute Nurse Pool

TITLE: School Nurse – Registered or Licensed Practicing JOB GOAL: To coordinate and provide school health services to students. REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support; supervised by school principal. Qualifications/Requirements Current valid state license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN). Ability to work well with students with parents and staff. Physical demands - must be able to stand and walk the majority of the day; lift and carry twenty (20) to thirty (30) pounds frequently, and up to one hundred (100) pounds occasionally; push or pull same amounts frequently. Job may also require frequent bending and stooping. Job Duties Is present at work everyday and arrives at the assigned time. Demonstrates an attitude and demeanor that contribute to an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill in the work place. Coordinates the school health care program for a designated cluster of schools. Coordinates and evaluates the activities of the health care providers in a designated cluster. Reports problems to Public Health Department as required by law. Collaborates with or serve as resource person to parents, teachers, and principals concerning health education for students as they relate to school. Collaborates with staff on health education for students. Administers treatment, medications, vaccines, preventive and maintenance care to students and families. Consults with staff on health problems, feeding techniques, hygienic issues and emergency techniques such as CPR. Contacts parents in need of health education relative to communicable diseases. Coordinates the meeting of medical needs of students by acting as liaison between the physician or agencies responsible for the student’s medical needs and related school personnel. Maintains confidentiality of all client information. Maintains documents of services rendered to students. Maintains accurate and up to date documents pertinent to health services provided to students. Attends approved training sessions, staff development activities, and required meetings. Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, or any criminal activity for which the employee becomes aware.
