Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, a Custodian performs various routine custodial activities to maintain the ROP administrative and Trident facilities, district site classrooms, offices, restrooms, and adjacent grounds in a clean and orderly manner. A Custodian may perform special custodial assignments upon request.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & TRAINING:• Required: High school graduation or equivalent and one year of custodial or equivalent cleaning experience.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The following physical and mental requirements described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of employees assigned to this position.

The physical requirements for the position include the ability to do the following regularly for short or long periods of time: bend; drive or travel to a variety of sites within a reasonable time frame; grasp; hear; kneel; lift and carry at least fifty pounds and may involve items up to seventy-five pounds with assistance; crouch; crawl; climb; balance; climb ladders to heights greater than 10 feet; lift from the ground, chest, shoulder or above, and waist; operate all required equipment; pull; push; reach above the shoulders; read electronic and written materials; see with visual acuity (including color, depth perception, and field of vision); sit; squat; speak clearly in person and on the phone; stand; stoop; talk; transverse across uneven surfaces; twist at the neck and waist and walk. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and/or operate standard maintenance tools and equipment.

The mental requirements for this position include the ability to do the following regularly for short or long periods of time: accept criticism and feedback on performance; analyze and solve problems; collaborate and interact successfully with various groups of people encountered in the course of work; learn and apply new information or skills; make observations; read and interpret information; use mathematical reasoning; use oral and written communication skills; work on multiple, concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions; and work under intensive deadlines and meet productivity requirements. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The following work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of employees assigned to this position.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors where significant health and safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of materials, including waste and blood-borne pathogens. Employees work in an outside environment and are exposed to seasonal heat and cold and/or adverse weather conditions in this position.

There is also moderate exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, vibration, and moving mechanical equipment. Employees are generally assigned to one site; they may also be shared between two work sites requiring driving between work locations. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.

The position classification may demand meeting deadlines and time constraints and may involve performing job duties in more than one location.
