Day-to-day Substitute on an on-call, as-needed basis
PLEASE NOTE: Upon selection for hire, candidates must complete fingerprinting at their cost.
Substitutes are called on an as-needed basis and there is no guarantee of how many days you will be called.
The custodian is required to perform skilled custodial and minor maintenance work for buildings, facilities and equipment as required. Substitute custodian must have ability to take direction from lead custodian and/or building principal. Successful candidate must be able to display skilled custodian and general maintenance/handy-work. Candidate must demonstrate pride in their work and workplace which in turn provides an environment conducive to learning.
Essential Functions (included, but not limited to):
This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
Follow a schedule of general cleaning and maintenance in assigned areas as developed by the Head Custodian.
Communicate with Head Custodian at the beginning of the shift to receive instructions concerning building use during the evening and special requests by staff members to be completed.
Picks up trash; empties pencil sharpeners; wipes spills; and empties accumulated trash from the building into central bins.
Sweeps, dry mops, wet mops tiled floors in classrooms, hallways, and multi-purpose areas; vacuums carpeted areas.
Cleans restrooms; sweeps as needed, washes and sanitizes sinks toilets and urinals. Replaces supplies in dispensers (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, seat covers, etc.) as needed.
Shovels snow and spreads deicer as needed.
Sweeps and cleans bleachers and gym floor, cleans and disinfects locker rooms where needed.
Maintain building security during work shift, (checking for unlocked doors, unauthorized occupants, etc.)
Assumes responsibility for the general security of the building at the end of the work shift by determining before leaving that all doors and windows are closed and locked; all lights, except those left on for safety, are turned off; and security system is set.
Assist in set-up and removal of furniture and equipment required for special events.
Operate waxing and burnishing equipment to clean floors when required.
Perform minor repairs and report major repairs to Head Custodian.
Sweep and clean walkways and pick up garbage in the immediate areas around buildings.
Assemble furniture and equipment as needed.
Perform minor maintenance and custodial duties in the summer months.
Substitute for Head Custodian when required as per requested by Maintenance Supervisor.
May be required to participate in projects under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements (Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities):
Knowledge of custodial and minor maintenance procedures.
Skill in maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
Skill in maintaining safety and security of assigned area.
Knowledge of, and skill in, the safe use and operation of floor care and cleaning equipment, power and hand tools.
Ability, and willingness, to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds unassisted; work independently; maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and the public; and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability, and willingness, to learn district custodial practices and procedures, including use of equipment.
Experience:
High school diploma or GED (General Education Degree)
Two (2) years custodial or janitorial experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
First aid/CPR/AED Certificate preferred
Position Contingent Upon the Following:
Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
Valid Washington Drivers License maintained for the duration of the job
Acceptable Driver's abstract
Valid First Aid/CPR card maintained for the duration of the job
Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform Act.
HIV/HBV Training (obtain within 30 days of hire date-district provided)
Sexual Harassment Training (obtain within 30 days of hire date-district provided)
