The Akron Board of Education announces openings for Substitute Cafeteria Helpers-Child Nutrition, Job Code 821, Time Schedule 370 (187 days) as and when needed basis (average 20-25 hrs. week). Hourly Rate: $10.29/hour. This is a School Employees Retirement System position.

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.;

  • Must satisfactorily complete Bureau of Criminal Investigation and FBI background checks;

  • Foodservice experience.


This position is routine, but responsible work in the preparation of meals for school cafeterias.

  • Basic mathematics, computer, and money handling skills;

  • Performs various physical tasks related to food preparation, service and cleaning;

  • Ability to work quickly, accurately, and neatly;

  • Follows all food safety and sanitation requirements;

  • Interacts in a positive manner with students, faculty, and coworkers;

  • Operates foodservice equipment, computerized register; frequent and regular requirement to lift (40 lbs.), stand for extended periods, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, stand, bend, reach and stoop.

Requirements EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE * Working towards bachelor's degree (B.A.) or associate's degree (A.A.) in hospitality, hotel or tourism management from four-year or two-year College or University; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Ability to present and express ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to audience, whether oral or written. * Knowledge of and ability to appropriately interrupt and follow policies and procedures. * Ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations; includes the ability to respond promptly to customer needs and requests for service and assistance. * Adaptability to demanding/fast paced environment. * Ability to meet the demands of the work schedule, to be at work and on time.
