Substitute Armed Security

Position: SUBSTITUTE ARMED SECURITY STAFF

District-wide

Job ID: 1921 Effective Date(s): 2024-2025 school year Employment Terms: Per diem as needed; shift and number of hours dependent upon vacancy.

Job Goal: To assist in the maintenance of a safe school environment for students and staff. Qualifications:

A. High school diploma or equivalent.

B. Possess a NJ Driver's License.

C. Retired Law Enforcement Officer with 20 or more years of experience and retired in good standing with their agency.

D. Possess the legal authority to carry a firearm under New Jersey State Law NJSA 2C:39- 6.1

E. Ability to work effectively within a school environment.

F. Must maintain a physical fitness standard to complete the performance responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to (standing for long periods of time, walking for extended periods, sitting for extended periods of time, restraining disorderly individuals, and responding to emergency situations in a quick and effective manner).

G. Should be proficient in basic computer skills.

H. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable Performance Responsibilities: A. General Functions

1.Assists in the supervision of students on school grounds including parking lots, entrance ways, hallways, restrooms, and in the cafeteria.

2.Patrols school grounds and notifies their supervisor or designee of the location of unauthorized persons or vehicles.

3.Greets visitors and provides directions, information, and guidance. Controls visitor, and employee building access.

4.Directs the orderly and safe movement of people and vehicles in school parking lots and on roadways.

5.Issues district parking violation notices to unauthorized or illegally parked vehicles.

6.Monitor and observe video surveillance cameras.

7.Must be able to work with various software platforms.

8.Complete interior and exterior building perimeter checks throughout their

designated shift.

9.Reports to their supervisor or designee any physical conditions which appear to be hazardous to students or staff.

10. Work closely with the Principal or Administrator to develop security needs throughout the school day. (arrival, dismissals, lunchtime/playground activities etc.).

11. Assist the principal/administrator with monthly security and fire drills.

12. Assist the principal/administrator with providing guidance to substitute

personnel regarding BOE security policies and procedures.

13. Notifies the school administrator or designee in the event of an incident involving students; any incidents involving physical confrontation; and any incident that appears to be of more than momentary disruption.

14. Advises teachers or administrators of any infractions of rules and regulations

related to security protocols and procedures.

15. Cooperates with and provides assistance to fire and police department personnel responding to alarms.

16. Provides whatever assistance is required to promote an orderly, safe, and

pleasant school environment.

17. Flexibility to work additional hours outside of shift as needed.
