Phoenix House Venice Beach provides

residential and outpatient services for adult men who struggle with alcohol,

marijuana, and other substance use disorders. Our evidence-based treatment

approach delivers a superior level of care focusing on strength to meet each

persons unique needs.

Group therapy, individual counseling, and a

variety of other wellness focused services are offered to those who are

striving to overcome addiction, reunite with family, and live a life free from

addiction. A wide range of group sessions are offered that address recovery

dynamics, relapse prevention, life skills, trauma, and anger management.

At Phoenix house, we empower people to

experience their personal strengths and help them discover new ways to manage

the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of addiction so they can live a

better life.

(Full-Time) Reporting to the Recovery Support

Supervisor, the Substance Use Disorder Support Staff is responsible for the

provision of clinical care and supervision to patients and for providing

ongoing clinical documentation in the clinical management system. The position

will also Support the program participant care approach of Gender Responsive and

Trauma-informed milieu by providing necessary supervision to the following

activities: Job functions, Physical Education, Academic enrichment, Case Load

Activities, Meal times, Personal Hygiene, Morning Wake up, Bedtime and all (un)

scheduled activities. The Substance Use Disorder Support Staff is also

responsible for timely and accurate completion of client notes, charts,

reports, and other documentation related to the treatment and progress of

clients in the program.

Daytime, Evening, Overnight, and Weekends

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:

  • AA or higher

degree in Behavioral Science (preferred).

  • High School

Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Registered

(required) or certified (preferred) by a certified body recognized by the

Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) as an alcohol and drug counselor

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years

progressive experience providing or coordinating social services, preferably

within a drug or alcohol treatment setting or transitional housing environment

preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to

work in a fast-paced environment and to make decisions independently and

effective communication when dealing with clients, families, other staff

members, department heads, visitors, external agencies and community members.

  • Ability to

effectively communicate verbally and in writing with appropriate documentation

skills to complete reports, utilize data and communicate ideas constructively.

  • Ability to

establish and consistently enforce appropriate boundaries with client/patients

of Phoenix House.

  • Strong crisis

management, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills.

  • Must show an

aptitude for working as part of a team.

  • Must maintain

a valid CA Drivers License, have proof of automobile insurance and maintain a

safe driving record based on Phoenix House policy.

(Full-Time) Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, the Substance Use Disorder Counselor is responsible for individual service coordination for patients enrolled in Phoenix House Adult Residential Services, including supporting a successful transition back into the community. In collaboration, the SUD Counselor supports the successful integration of medical care, housing and income/employment assistance, substance abuse treatment, and other services within individual treatment plans. SCHEDULE: * Variable – Daytime, Evening, Overnight, and Weekends REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS: * High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years’ experience working with substance abuse clients and their families; OR * Bachelor’s degree (in social sciences preferred); AND * Registered (required) or certified (preferred) by a certified body recognized by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) as an alcohol and drug counselor EXPERIENCE: * 2 years progressive experience working as a case manager, preferably within a drug or alcohol treatment setting transitional housing environment preferred. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: * Oversees coordination of Initial Assessment, Service Authorization Requirements, and Treatment Plans. * Review and goals with other supportive service plans, including, general medical care, Group Counseling, Patient. * Education, Individual Counseling, Crisis Intervention, Family Counseling, Collateral Services and Discharge Services. * Prepares and presents seminars and workshops. * Facilitates Evidence-Based Treatments for assigned cohorts. * Participates in weekly case conferences and staff meetings, as scheduled. * Monitors and records all activities in patient charts in a timely manner. * Maintains appropriate records such as ongoing progress notes, reports to referring agencies, discharge summaries and clinical case records as required by external stakeholders. * Provides individual counseling services. * Communicates with approved family members with the goal of providing direct support to the entire unit of treatment. * Encourages and facilitates family involvement in parent education, Sunday Family Group, and visitation. * Interfaces with referral agencies including the Substance Abuse Prevention and Control, County and Federal Probation Departments, and Department of Health Care Services. * Must maintain a valid CA Drivers’ License, have proof of automobile insurance and maintain a safe driving record based on Phoenix House policy.
