The Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDC) is responsible for emphasizing compassionate care to our client partners as they progress toward sobriety and prepare to reenter employment.
The role of the SUDC utilizes counseling training and lived experience, as applicable, in establishing safety, building trust, and reducing trauma for the most vulnerable clients residing in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Solano Counties. This position reports directly to the Mental Health Counselor. The person in this role is expected to work out of our SF HQ a minimum of 3 days a week. Some travel is required within the Bay Area.

What You Will Do:
Provide harm reduction-informed counseling for substance abuse, misuse and dependency
Conduct clinical assessments (including ASAM), using validated tools (including C-SSRS and Audit) and exercise clinical judgment to provide treatment and make appropriate referrals
Conduct substance abuse needs intake interviews and assessments
Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with the Mental Health Counselor
Refer and connect clients to other service and training providers to mitigate barriers, enhance career development skills, and maintain employment
Participate in interdisciplinary team conferencing to ensure client success to sobriety and connection to employment opportunities
Participate in Quality Assurance Reviews (QAR), performance improvement activities and applicable continuing education courses
Serving as an advocate or liaison between Goodwill and local communal agencies, treatment programs, mental health agencies to promote a continuum of care for clients
Facilitate a group and individual sessions that utilizes a harm reduction model
Provide outreach support at Goodwill program orientation and community events
Maintain proper notes and documentation in clients' electronic medical record, and comply with HIPPA and standards of care guidelines
Participate in clinical supervision and attend required trainings and agency meetings
Documents client benchmarks, significant incidents and other required information into Salesforce, daily as required by the program
Assist in the evaluation, planning, development, and implementation of program procedures, guidelines and policies
What You Bring to The Role:
Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor (CATC), CCAPP certification or equivalent (CADTP, CAADE) and 2-3 years of direct experience working with the community behavioral health system, preferably in San Francisco County, Alameda County or Contra Costa County
Strong consideration will be given for a registered CCAPP or equivalent (CADTP, CAADE) journey level substance abuse counselor with strong experience and professionalism
Completed NARCAN, De-escalation, and Motivational Interviewing training
Demonstrated knowledge of the Wellness and Recovery Model, Harm Reduction, and other evidenced based practices such as Wellness-Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) and Seeking Safety
Must demonstrate a positive, non-judgmental, and accepting attitude toward our client population.
Knowledge of cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientations, and age groups other than one's own, able to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated skills in facilitation of groups and workshops
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems
A growth mindset and a passion for helping people continuously improve
Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as foster teamwork
Ability to provide services in threshold language (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Russian, Tagalog, Arabic) is highly preferred but not required
