About the Richmond State Hospital:

Richmond State Hospital is about the people we serve and the community relationships we have developed dating back to 1890. Richmond State Hospital is a public behavioral health facility operated by the state of Indiana and one of six state psychiatric hospitals within the Family and Social Services Administration Division of Mental Health and Addiction. As part of a newly integrated system of state psychiatric hospitals, we serve consumers across the state as the Eastern Center of Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Nestled in northwestern Richmond, our beautiful campus provides a quiet and peaceful environment. We provide psychiatric, and chemical dependency treatment to all adults regardless of race, religion, sex, gender identification, age, handicap, national origin and ability to pay for services. Salary Inforamation:

This position starts at $26,702.00 annually, but is compensatable with experience.

About the Job:

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides substance abuse information and counseling at a state operated facility.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Interacts professionally with residents, offenders and other facility staff.

  • Teaches substance abuse concepts in both large and small group settings.

  • Provides case management at a state facility.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to perform duties related to mental health illness concepts and behaviors.

  • Assumes the role of Unit Coordinator and performs in that capacity as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor (LCAC) or Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) required.

  • Knowledge of treatment of substance abuse and addiction with components of mental illness

  • Case management skills and ability to develop and implement treatment plans;

  • Ability to complete paperwork requirements in a timely fashion

  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

  • Basic computer skills in order to handle email and computer generated forms

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
