Founded in 1890 by the Sisters of Mercy, Scripps Mercy Hospital is San Diego's longest established hospital, the only Catholic medical center and the largest teaching hospital in the region located in the heart of Hillcrest. This limited tenure role is part of a Grant from the California Bridge Program and will work in coordination with the Opioid Stewardship Program. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work to support many units throughout the hospital.

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides substance use counseling services to all levels of care within the program. They will participate in the structure of a multidisciplinary treatment team addressing the chemical dependency needs of patients. The Counselor will facilitate transitions of care to outpatient clinics for Medication Assisted Treatment.

This position is a Full Time, Evening shift role located at Scripps Mercy San Diego, in the Hillcrest area. Some weekend coverage will be required. This Limited tenured position is funded for 18 months.


Required Education/Experience/Specialized

Skills:
  • Two years working in the chemical dependency field.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

  • Certification from a California State Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Services certifying agency under an approved certifying organization and/or Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT).

  • American Health Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Hours are Monday - Friday 5:30am - 2:00pm. Fashion Valley CTC, a member of Acadia Healthcare's Comprehensive Treatment Centers, is a part of the leader in medication assisted treatment for individuals struggling with an opioid addiction. With full-circle care that includes a blend of therapies and the use of safe and effective medications, we are prepared to treat the entire problem, not just a piece of it. Position Characteristics The Substance Abuse Counselor 2 is a counseling professional who provides treatment and support to assist patients in their recovery from addictions, such as alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, or other behavioral problems, assists with modifying problem behaviors; may also provide counseling services to families of patients through an outpatient setting. Responsibilities * Conducts individual counseling sessions, under supervision, as scheduled and documents as required; * Conducts group and/or family sessions, under supervision, as scheduled and documents as required; * May co-facilitate assigned group or family sessions; * Responsible for initial assessments, as well as follow up assessment, for patients; * Prepares individual treatment plan for each assigned patients; * Ensures all documentation regarding patient care, treatment and incidents are completed timely and in a clear, concise manner; * May act as a liaison between referral sources and patients; * Provides crisis intervention to patients, as needed; * May plan for aftercare for assigned patients; * May act as a liaison with insurance carriers, as requested; * May provide case management duties for patients, ensuring individualized quality care; * Evaluates patient's needs and determines if referrals to other programs or facilities is needed; and, * Performs other duties as assigned.
