Position Description:

Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday

  • Thursday, 9am

  • 8pm

Work Location: Psychiatry, Substance Abuse Center

Under general supervision, provides clinical assessment, counseling, drug education and case management for clients participating in substance use treatment in accordance with government and department standards. Responds to the unique needs of adolescent patients as the need arises.

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required: Master's degree in Counseling, Mental Health, Social Work or related Human Services field. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR REGISTRATION:

Required: Must obtain one of the following licensures within thirty (30) months of eligibility with DMH:

a) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling (ABEC),

b) Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners

c) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Marriage and Family Therapy

d) Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners

e) Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC) by Alabama Association of Addiction Counselors Certification Board

TRAITS & SKILLS: Must be self-directed / self-motivated; must have good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to: (1) perform a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure; (2) accept responsibility for the direction, control and planning of an one's own work; (3) work independently; (4) recognize the rights and responsibilities of patient confidentiality; (5) convey empathy and compassion to those experiencing pain, physical or emotional distress and/or grief; (6) relate to others in a manner which creates a sense of teamwork and cooperation; (7) communicate effectively with people from every socioeconomic, cultural and educational background; (8) exhibit flexibility and cope effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced healthcare environment; (9) perform effectively when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or dangerous situations and escalate issues as needed to concierge, manager or patient advocate staff; (10) demonstrate the quality work ethic of doing the right thing the right way;
