Substance Abuse Counselor Full-Time and Per Diem

New TBI Neurobehavioral Beds

Richmond Center is actively seeking a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to work in our Skilled Nursing Home Facility located in Staten Island, NY to provide substance abuse treatment services according to Richmond Center standards.

Description:

  • A Substance Abuse Counselor at Richmond Center's TBI Neurobehavioral program performs Diagnostic Assessment; Evaluation; Intervention; Referral; and Alcoholism and/or Substance Abuse Counseling in both Individual and Group Settings.

  • Counselors with a creative spirit, able to work with different personalities and interested in developing or continuing a specialization with those in a long -term rehab & recovery program with cognitive, motor balance as well as addiction or psychiatric issues caused by neurologic impairment. Days, Evenings and Weekend hours/ part and full time available.

Educational Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate has a Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work with emphasis on addictions or a foreign degree equivalent as accepted by US Citizenship and Immigration Services or a Bachelor's Degree or foreign degree equivalent. Certified alcohol/substance abuse counselor is also acceptable.

Position Requirements:

  • Prior experience in Addictions counseling preferred and exposure to people's needs in TBI or SNF setting preferred, but not necessary.

Full Time or Per Diem Salary: Commensurate with experience

VIEW JOBS 3/5/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-03T00:00 Overview JOB SUMMARY: The Apartment Counselor position is the tenant's resource coordinator aiding with any issues while in residence with SIBN. The counselor performs contact work with the clients and assists in providing services to recipients under close and regular supervision and tutorage of a supervisor. Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions unless this causes undue hardship to the agency. Essential Responsibilities: * Performs regular inspections of the apartments to ensure the safety of the residents, cleanliness of the clients' bedrooms and common areas as well as security of the area. * Immediately reports serious incidents, serious incident allegations or sensitive situations to supervisors. * Completes incident reports in accordance with SIBN policy. * Explains the types of services SIBN provides to clients and helps to instruct the client in daily living skills, socialization skill enhancement and conflict resolution. * Executes emergency plans under the direction of assigned supervisors. * Accompanies clients, in the absence of Care Coordinator, to necessary emergency medical visits, social agencies, government office or other locations associated with the treatment or assistance of the consumer. * Attends regular scheduled clinical meetings and supervision. * Attends professional development activities and training. * Assists the Care Coordinator in accounting for clients. * Assists the Care Coordinator in filing missing person's reports on residents not accounted for. * May be involved in planning, escorting, and/or arranging social or recreational activities for clients. * May be assigned a limited caseload on either an interim basis or as part of a training process. Qualifications Qualifications include: * Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field, Master's Degree preferred. * Advanced knowledge of mental illness * Basic knowledge of techniques for identifying and preventing potentially violent behavior, including crisis management techniques. * Experience working with persons in crisis * Good documentation skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to establish rapport. * Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate. * MUST have a valid NYS driver's license Institute For Community Living Staten Island NY
