Position Description

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, the Subscriber Support Advanced-Radio Service Tech is responsible for moderately complex tasks typically relating to Harris County's network monitoring, operations, installation, and maintenance for local, off-site, and remote locations.

Job Duties:

  • Performs hands-on, first tier diagnostic services and repairs to two-way mobile radio vehicle drive-ins as needed.

  • Performs land mobile radio subscriber template design and subscriber layout.

  • Performs land mobile radio subscriber programming.

  • Documents work labor and parts through the work order software.

  • Performs frequency and specification alignment of land mobile radio subscribers.

  • Completes necessary steps and paperwork to send a subscriber radio to the repair depot.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma/GED equivalent

Experience:

  • Have advanced understanding of P25 Trunked Radio Systems and one to three years' experience with Radio programming using Motorola CPS radio programming software.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Strong knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite, Infor Cloud suite, Genesis, and other various radio programming software's.

This applies to any position with network access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) or access to an area where CJIS is received, maintained, or stored either manually or electronically (i.e., custodian, maintenance).

Automatic Disqualification:

  • Convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication for any Felony, and any Class A Misdemeanor

  • Convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B Misdemeanor, if within the previous 10 years

  • Open arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor)

  • Family Violence conviction

Preferences

Education:

  • Associates Degree, Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related field.

Experience:

  • Have three to eight years of experience with P25 radio programming using Motorola CPS, Kenwood Armada, Harris RPM2, and Bendix King radio programming software.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.

  • The ability to interact with staff at all levels.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Monday - Friday | 40hrs

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. and/or move boxes and equipment as needed.

  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, and reaching are needed to perform the essential functions.

Special Requirements:

  • Must pass FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background checks and Awareness Certification within 90 days of hire.

  • Must complete FEMA NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 training within 1 year of hire.

  • Must have a valid driver license.

  • May be required to work more than forty hours during the workweek or on weekends special projects or Public Safety events/incidents.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
