As a member of the Study Abroad and Away team, the Specialist assists in all aspects of the daily operations of the Study Abroad & Away Office. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Conducts preliminary student advising regarding Study Abroad and Away opportunities, policies, and procedures.
Facilitates the Study Abroad/Away faculty-led program application and admission process and advises students and communicates with faculty regarding faculty-led programs.
Assists with developing and organizing faculty-led programs.
Works with the Associate Director to administer the incoming International Exchange Student program and the National Student Exchange.
Manages the student Study Abroad/Away experience evaluation process.
Plans and implements the biannual Study Abroad/Away Fair.
Coordinates programming for prospective and returnee students.
Assists with Study Abroad and Away pre-departure and National Student Exchange student orientations.
Represents the TU Study Abroad & Away Office at university events and conducts presentations and information sessions on campus.
Coordinates overseas health insurance enrollment for faculty and students.
Performs a variety of administrative functions in the office and communicates with other administrative and academic units on campus.
Some domestic and international travel may be required to participate in professional development opportunities.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Required:
Bachelor's degree
One year of experience in administrative staff work.
Have knowledge of current trends within the education abroad field.
Possess excellent communication skills and be interested in and attentive to cross-cultural communication.
Be able to work as an effective team member.
Possess excellent administrative and multi-tasking skills and be highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
Preferred:
Previous experience working in international education.
Experience with a web-based study abroad management system.
Ability to speak a foreign language fluently.
Have experience living, working, or studying abroad.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
