Studio Technician

The studio technician will coordinate with staff and work-study students to prepare the building for classes each quarter, including the inspection of equipment to ensure proper safety and function. The technician is responsible for submitting work orders as necessary and will assist with department activities such as Majors Fairs, Open Studio, SCAD Days, and workshops.

This position maintains studios, equipment, and supply stock through routine maintenance, inventory/stocking, communicating, and enforcing department policies. The studio technician supports the installation and take-down of exhibitions and events, or special projects related to the fibers department and will prepare works for shipment at the end of the events as necessary.

The training of students, faculty, and staff for properly handling the equipment falls to the technician to complete. Each day the technician will inspect equipment to ensure its readiness for use and must clean the equipment weekly. Additionally, the studio technician will oversee the tool check-out system and maintain a collegial, professional environment at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.F.A. in fibers or related field

• Experience with equipment and processes related to sewing, knitting, dyeing, screen printing, weaving, felting, and papermaking

• Experience working with and repairing related machinery

• Strong organizational, time-management, research skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

• Strong professional communication skills

Travel required: Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday.

Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
