Job Description:

Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Studio Foundation Department, is seeking faculty for tenure-track positions starting at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are seeking faculty members to teach across the Studio Foundation First Year curriculum.

The Studio Foundation Department is committed to a multi-disciplinary approach in preparing students to enter any of our art and design majors and minors. We seek candidates who have a holistic sense of the Foundations as a discipline of exploration and connections. Faculty may teach in one or more of our four Areas - TIME (4D), Form Study (3D), Visual Language (2D), and Drawing. We are seeking applications from designers and artists with a strong commitment to their studio and teaching practices.

With the evolving need to educate in the creative fields, these positions emphasize time-based art and design, a practice rooted in design processes, and three-dimensional art or design practices. An applicant's studio practice and teaching interests should align with these priorities. Required and desired qualifications are detailed below.

Successful applicants' practices may integrate emerging and traditional technologies, and should bring those practices to their understanding of Foundations education. Desired candidate experience could include emerging technologies not limited to video and sound production, photography, 2D design, 3D design, and digital fabrication.

In addition to an active practice, successful applicants should demonstrate a commitment to diverse, equitable and inclusive learning experiences, to teaching and advising Foundation students, and to departmental curricular development for a pluralistic student body. Full time faculty should expect these commitments to take shape in departmental leadership roles, and inter-departmental collaboration in the form of college-wide shared governance.

Salary: $64,000-$82,000

This position is governed by the MSCA collective bargain agreement.

MassArt is the oldest, and one of only two public, state supported, independent colleges of art and design in the country. As such, we are honored to serve the public and the broad demographic of the Commonwealth, the region, the nation, and beyond. We are among the leaders in increasing the diversity of our curriculum and support programs, as well as our faculty, staff, and student populations. As we promote an inclusive and equitable environment, we seek candidates who will actively participate in our shared goals and encourage applicants to identify their strengths in this area. MassArt embraces teaching sustainability in art and design and defines it as addressing and solving the problems at the intersections of social justice, health, equity, and the environment.
