You will be based most likely in North America, with a preference for NY, Philadelphia, Atlanta or Chicago, with other locations considered. You'll create best-in-class designs as well as the tools to support others in that pursuit. You'll report to McKinsey's Director of Brand Communications, with a close working relationship to the firm's design director, and other key relationships include the firm's brand managers, design leaders around the firm, and our head of external storytelling. What You'll Do In this role, you will be the lead designer on McKinsey's visual identity system, you will scale design excellence across our global firm, and you will be the lead designer on our institutional storytelling. As the lead designer on McKinsey's visual identity system, you will ensure the firm's visual identity is cohesive, excellent quality, and useful and usable by all firm members and vendors. You will maintain the integrity of our visual identity over time, keeping it relevant, distinctive, and evolving as needed to solve for the needs of a changing firm. You will ensure our design system is successfully communicating the intent of our brand architecture. You will lead certain priority efforts to extend the use of McKinsey's identity system across new and existing channels, ensuring we stay true to one elevated cohesive expression, but constantly pushing to create new experiences that help us build and strengthen the understanding of McKinsey today. Additionally, you will benchmark best practices and monitor trends for brand communications and disseminate this knowledge to colleagues and internal clients to achieve optimal performance across internal teams. Your second key area of responsibility is scaling excellent design across the firm through innovation and inspiration. You will be the recognized authority and evangelist for best practice for the McKinsey brand. You'll also be the creative lead on efforts to engage McKinsey's 28,000 colleagues in our positioning and identity. In this capacity, you will advise key stakeholders on, and at times manage, efforts to implement our identity in the most inspiring and effective way in priority communications, including special branded projects (e.g., trade show booths, branding for advertising and marcomms materials for use on social media, internal initiatives, etc). You will continually refresh the expectations of our Communications Leaders and Design Leaders for what the brand system can do for them, and you'll remain up to date with their latest brand communications to monitor the quality of their teams' and vendors' work. Listening to colleagues' communications needs and working with them to agree and build solutions, templates, and resources that respond to their needs will be important. You will also continue to add to our internal visual identity site to make it a one stop shop for brand design instruction and inspiration, and you'll partner with other design teams in the firm to share best practice for creating brand communications. Additionally, you'll support the firm's design awards at the end of every year. Furthermore, you will help build a network of external design talent that McKinsey can work with to run special design projects and scale up design resource when needed (e.g., a list of freelancers trained on our identity and vetted for quality and a list of trusted photographers around the world who can deliver on our house style.) You will also support external vendors working on firm projects to ensure they understand and stay true to our identity, while giving them the encouragement and creative inspiration to ensure they keep moving our expression forward. The third major area of responsibility is to be the lead designer for McKinsey's institutional storytelling. You will power the creative engine for our external storytelling, showcasing our innovation, social impact and the diversity of our people today. This includes designing and commissioning assets for the New at McKinsey blog, and can include other external storytelling platforms. In this capacity you will design or creatively manage strategically important marketing communications and you will work with multidisciplinary teams to create optimum user experiences and highly engaging brand experiences across print and digital channels (e.g., the New at McKinsey booklet / e-book). You will also partner with McKinsey.com designers and editors on creative content ideas for McKinsey.com, focusing on marcoms content from practices.
