Full-Time Tenure-Track Faculty Position
The Ray and Dorthy Young School of Business, Technology, and Design at Louisiana Christian University seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Studio Art to begin August 1, 2024.
Description of Position:
Louisiana Christian University has a long tradition of excellence in the arts. The university is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position to teach Studio Art coursework as part of the school's degree programs.
The university offers a BA in Studio Art: Ceramics Concentration or Painting and Drawing Concentration and a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design. Minors include Art History, Graphic Design, Studio Art, and Web Design.
The Louisiana Christian University Art Department trains students to have a positive Christian impact on society by providing a serious study of the visual arts in all its forms and contexts so that they may more fully dialogue with the professional art world. A series of studio, lecture and seminar courses provide a learning environment for students which nurtures their technical and philosophical skills in a distinctively Christian and academically rigorous environment. These studies develop the aptitudes within students which prepare them for either graduate school or entering directly into the art and design marketplace.
Applicants will need to demonstrate teaching competencies in both lecture and studio courses that will include the candidate's specialty area as well as other specific needs in the department. Courses are delivered in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
The position also requires that the faculty member be available for advising students and serve on university committees. Faculty development through scholarship activities including travel support and opportunities for research with undergraduates is strongly encouraged and funding is available through an endowment.
The successful candidate will acknowledge a life calling to liberal arts education at a Christ-centered university with this mission: Louisiana Christian University is "a Christ-centered community committed to academic excellence where students are equipped for lives of learning, leading, and serving."
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should hold a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Art or an allied field which qualifies them to teach Art or Graphic Design
The ability to teach courses to both non-majors, general education, and upper-level degree-seeking arts students
A lifestyle consistent with a Christian worldview
The ability to integrate Christian faith into traditional coursework
The successful candidate will also demonstrate an active Christian faith and a calling to engage in a "Christ-centered community committed to Academic Excellence where students are equipped for Lives of Learning, Leading, and Serving."
