The Student Leadership and Involvement Student Programs Assistant (SPA) supports community building for students throughout The New School by creating campus-wide events that meet their cultural, social, educational, and entertainment needs. This position(s) will work under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Organizations and Activities.

General Responsibilities:

Liaise with the other Student Programs Assistants, student organizations, and general student body to generate ideas and suggestions on topics for campus wide programming
Identify and propose new strategies for student involvement
Maintain between 2-5 hours in the office per week, plus attendance at regularly scheduled daytime, evening and weekend SPA programs
Be the point person for one of the following areas; 1) Cultural Experiences & Events, 2) On-Campus Events and 3) Evening and Off-Campus Events
Plan and execute at minimum, (1) Dinner and a Movie event per semester
Plan and execute at minimum, (2) events outside of point person area.
Attend and assist in the execution of SPA staff trainings and retreats
Attend SPA staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with the Assistant Director
Act as On Site Coordinator at SPA events, and additional SLI events and trips as needed
Create and distribute marketing materials for your SPA events
Work closely with various academic and non-academic departments within the University, including Housing and Residential Education, Facilities Management and Event IT, as well as outside or third party vendors

SPA staff that are hired will be placed in one of the following areas. During the interview process you will be able to indicate which area(s) interest you:

    Broadway Shows
    Museum trips
    Affinity based programming and events
    Heritage month programming
    Drag Show/Cabaret
  2. On-Campus Events
    NarwhalNation Station Tabling Schedule
    Daytime Programs
    Night time and Weekend Programs
  3. Evening and Off-Campus Student Events
    Grad Week
    Grad Fair
    Study Breaks with SLI
    Pop Ups with SLI
    Commuter focused events

Other Duties May Include:

Oversee area SPA budget, in cooperation with Assistant Director and SLI Office Assistant Staff, including expenses and revenues received, and forecasting expenditures for future events
Coordinate the creation and distribution of communications, media, and promotional strategies
Assist with answering telephones, routing calls, faxing, filing correspondence, running errands on and off campus, and making copies
