Job Description:

The O'Connor Center for Community Engagement (OCCE) has two openings for the Community Assistant position.

Some of the Community Assistant (CA) responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a resource, and partner with off-campus students to help implement programs geared specifically for students living off campus.

  • Serving as a liaison between community businesses/organizations and the O'Connor Center for Community Engagement (OCCE).

  • Connecting regularly with a variety of Village residents and students to promote positive Delhi community neighborhoods.

  • Maintaining office hours in the OCCE.

  • Participating in Community Service Day and other traditional events.


  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must reside off campus

  • Must have and maintain a minimum 2.30 cumulative GPA.

  • Must be in good judicial standing with the College.

Additional Information:

  • Hours: 10 hrs/wk

  • Salary: $11.10/hr

Trades Specialists (Plumber & Steamfitter) perform journey-level plumbing and steamfitter work and may supervise others in the installation, alteration, and repair of pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, ventilating, heating control, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES * Have working knowledge of applicable standards and plumbing code regulations. * Have working knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in commercial plumbing, steam fitting,HVAC trades, and possess the technical skills needed to work with them. * Have working knowledge of hot water, steam heating systems and control devices and possess the technical skills needed to work with them. * Have working knowledge of the practices, techniques and skills of welding, brazing and soldering. * Have working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and skills used in making mechanical and routine electrical repairs to heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, pneumatic control systems, direct digital control, and other microprocessor controlled equipment and systems. * Have working knowledge of the construction and the safe, efficient operation of boilers, chillers, auxiliary heating, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment, and possess the technical skills needed to work with them. * Have working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and skills used in the maintenance, repair and balancing of building ventilation systems, air handlers, fans, and hydronic systems. * Have working knowledge of energy conservation concepts and possess the technical skills needed to work with them. * Ability to train and supervise others. * Ability to plan work, compile and submit material list for ordering. * Ability to calibrate controls, balance heating systems for both air or hydronic systems. * Ability to operate energy management systems and interpret data and graphs for diagnostic information used to assist in the repair of heating systems. * Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor. * Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. INDEPENDENCE OF OPERATION Trade Specialists (Plumber & Steamfitter) are supervised by higher-level maintenance operation positions such as Trades Supervisor (Plumber & Steamfitter), Plant Utilities Engineer, or Maintenance Supervisor. Generally, work priorities are prescribed, material is furnished, the nature and extent of the work to be performed is given, and detailed plans, diagrams, and specifications are provided. In the absence of such direction, the Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) sets priorities, requisitions materials, determines the work that has to be done, and lays out the work. Although the work of a Trade Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) is inspected periodically by a supervisor, incumbents are expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a skilled tradesperson. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications for the Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) position are identified below: Non-competitive: Four years of full-time experience in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) traineeship or a two-year plumbing training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program. * Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of "C" or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. Preferred qualification: * NYSDEC-7G- Pesticide Application Certification for Cooling Towers (must obtain certification within 12 months of hiring) Additional Information: * Status: Full-time, Permanent * Negotiating Unit: 03 - Operational Services Unit (OSU) * Starting Salary: SG-12, $43,484. * Work Schedule: 6:30 am - 3 pm, 40 hrs/wk, Monday - Friday.
