This position is for Stevens students currently enrolled. Must have a fulltime status. This is a part-time hourly position.

Position: Student XR Lab Support Specialist [Undergrad]

The Division of Information Technology seeks highly motivated, dedicated and energetic full-time graduate or undergraduate students with a passion for extended reality (XR) technologies to work as the XR Lab Support Specialist.

Stevens undergraduate students only.

All majors are welcome to apply. Applicants must:

  • Be a Stevens undergraduate (sophomore or junior)

  • Be in good academic standing

  • Be prepared to work shifts of at least three hours in length

Qualifications

  • A passion for and experience with extended reality (virtual reality, mixed reality, augmented reality) and related tools and technologies is required

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, and of fundamental importance

  • Capable of working in a fast paced, dynamic and highly collaborative environment

  • Excellent customer service orientation required, and successful prior customer service experience would be beneficial

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and thoroughly learn and support new technologies and processes

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems

  • Competency in Microsoft technologies, including Windows and Office suite

  • Competency in mainstream technologies including computer configurations, web browsers, the Internet, email, etc.

  • Competency in Canvas LMS and learning technologies preferred

  • Familiarity with/experience in creating XR content in Unity a plus

  • Federal Work Study eligibility

Hours & Location

The work schedule is generally during business hours, Monday - Friday between 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., though it may be necessary to work evening and weekend shifts as required.

Working on campus at the XR Lab is required.

Job Description

The XR Lab Support Specialist will staff the Stevens XR Lab and maintain Lab technology, as well as provide support to the Stevens community in using the XR Lab and equipment. They will conduct research on various developments related to XR. The Specialist will also provide support for various projects within Information Technology that are not directly related to XR, such as editing video recordings and writing Knowledge Base articles.

The XR Lab Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining excellence in all aspects of the user experience concerning support and service.  Successful candidates must possess excellent customer service and communication skills and are expected to effectively prioritize and execute multiple concurrent tasks with complete attention to detail.

This position also involves technical knowledge and the ability to think logically and systematically.

Students must also be highly reliable and accountable for the hours they are scheduled to work, and should be prepared to work shifts of at least three hours of length in this position. As a matter of course, individuals hired for this position must also be prepared to dress and conduct themselves as professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the Stevens community support in XR tools and technologies

  • Provide solutions/assistance to Stevens community during XR Lab use

  • Provide training on various XR tools, technologies, and systems such as Quest 3/Quest 2, HoloLens 2 and HTC Vive Pro 2

  • Troubleshoot and maintain XR Lab space, technologies, and peripheral devices

  • Ensure a professional and courteous customer experience for the user

  • Conduct research related to XR

  • Stay abreast of developments in XR technologies, tools, and applications to recommend new technologies for the Lab

  • Provide support for various projects within Information Technology and the Stevens community as requested / directed

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the department's operations and procedures

  • Update departmental documentation

  • Provide after-hours and on-call support as needed

  • Other duties as assigned
