Under immediate supervision, Student Worker perform routine and repetitive duties, which require basic skills and can be learned in a short time, generally less than a week.
Duties may include but are not limited to: answering telephone calls and routing non-routine calls to appropriate individuals; typing routine correspondence and other materials; processing mail by opening and distributing to appropriate sections or individuals; checking documents such as applications for completeness; inventorying, categorizing, labeling, coding, batching and filing various materials; operating standard office machines such as personal computers, typewriters, copiers, shedders, calculators and microfiche viewers; and assisting with miscellaneous projects.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is part-time and will work approximately 19 hours a week.
The position will provide clerical and technical support for the division.
Applicants must be students who are currently enrolled in, or recent graduates from, an educational program leading to a high school diploma.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties related to the Wastewater Reclamation Facility grounds maintenance. This recruitment will remain open until recruitment needs are satisfied. Examples of Duties:This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. * Mows, trims, edges and fertilizes landscaped areas. * Installs, repairs and maintains irrigation systems. * Performs snow removal activities as required in the area of the treatment plant. * Cleans equipment by using high-pressure water sprayers and associated cleaners. * Uses common hand and power tools in the course of work. * Performs basic facility and grounds maintenance in the area of the treatment plant, which includes removing trash, cleaning buildings, and painting equipment. * Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work; drives City vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assists other staff as required. * Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with contractors, public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. Typical Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Experience: * Equivalent to a High School education or GED * OSHA 10 within 30 days of hire REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: * Valid Driver's License. Required Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of: * Safe work practices and regulations pertaining to the work. * Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Skill in: * Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools related to the work. * Understanding and following oral and written directions. * Preparing basic records of work performed. * Performing general maintenance work, individually or as a member of a crew, in various areas, depending on the function. * Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Under General Supervision - Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions and in extreme temperatures. Work involves exposure to potentially hazardous fumes, solvents and liquids. Supplemental Information:CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: * Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. * Any City employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency. * Employees shall be required to complete Incident Command System training as a condition of continuing employment. * New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation which cost the new employee $52.25 and a drug/alcohol screen which costs $36.50. Employment is contingent upon passing the background and the drug/alcohol screen. * Carson City participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS, with information from each applicant's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
