Position: STUDENT WELLNESS COORDINATOR

West Brook Middle School

10-month work year

Position is associated with the terms and conditions of the negotiated Agreement between the Educational Association of Paramus (EAP) and the Board of Education Reports To: Supervisor of School Counseling Job Goal: A. To support the design and implementation of the social-emotional learning curriculum, standards, instruction, and assessment

B. To coordinate a comprehensive framework for SEL within the district's multi- tiered system of support (MTSS) by developing and implementing Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports and interventions

Qualifications:

A. Must possess a Standard Educational Services Certificate such as but not limited to School Counselor, School Social Worker, or Student Assistance Coordinator with five (5) years of relevant experience in their field.

B. Bachelor's degree with a major in counseling or equivalent working experience.

C. Knowledge of social-emotional competencies and approaches, including current research and best practices in social-emotional learning (SEL) and school climate.

D. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and work collaboratively with various teams

E. Sensitivity to students' social, emotional and behavioral challenges

F. Creativity and flexibility to develop successful programs for student academic success

G. Ability to interact with students, families, staff, and administration and effectively handle issues utilizing a problem-solving approach

H. Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects

I. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

J. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities: 1. Collaborate with school and district administration to develop and maintain a comprehensive SEL program outline with annual goals, objectives, and progress monitoring. Contribute to short-term and long-term planning of district-wide SEL integration; create an annual school SEL Action Plan.

2.Coordinate Advisory planning and program development to align with school/district SEL goals in consultation with school counselors and administration, including the development of a curriculum framework and lesson outlines for advisory group leaders.

3.Prioritize the needs and requests of students, families, staff, and administration within the school setting and respond in a professional and efficient manner.

4.Collaborate with the school counselors to outline, schedule, and deliver supplemental SEL push-in lessons by grade level aligned with the school's SEL goals and student developmental needs.

5.Collect and analyze data to make decisions and adjustments to the SEL curriculum and initiatives. Consult with coordinators, administrators, school

counselors, school psychologists and teachers regarding the social and emotional needs of students.

6.Oversee the use of the DESSA assessment as a universal SEL screener, provide support for staff during rating windows, and coordinate and track intervention strategies for identified students.

7.Serve as the Anti-Bullying Specialist and develop and implement targeted, preventative programming to work to decrease incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying; provide responsive and restorative assignments, working with students identified in HIB/conflicts/code of conduct.

8.Serve as the chairperson for the School Culture and Climate Team and work with building administration to develop annual goals, objective and action plans aligned with other related initiatives and implement resources to contribute to a positive school climate and support the district's strategic framework.

9.Assist with designing staff professional development and training to support effective implementation of social-emotional learning in the classroom and provide technical assistance and best practices to district and school staff around promoting students' social-emotional development and well-being.



  1. Participate in I&RS team meetings and planning for tier 2 and 3 interventions.

  2. Coordinate assembly programs aligned with the school's SEL goals.
